Karen O and the YYY’s
I’ve always loved the passion and intensity of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and today its all coming back to me as I watched their performance of last night’s SNL. Coincidentently, I came across this amazing acoustic version of Karen singing, Skeletons, from the musicslult blog, this week which was icing and the cherry on my sundae.
Karen’s mother is Korean and her father is Polish. Karen was born in South Korea, but eventually moved to America. She grew up in Englewood, New Jersey. She was approached by Playboy to do a cover, she said “No”. She accidentally danced off a stage while playing in Sydney Australia’s Metro and after going to the hospital she was cited in a wheelchair at the Sydney leg of the Livid Festival, pushed by Angus Andrew. She is good friends with fashion designer Christian Joy. Her She had her breasts plaster-casted by Cynthia Plaster Caster. She won Spin Magazine’s Sex Goddess Award in both 2004 and 2005. In 2006 she was named one of rock’s hottest women by Blender. In 2007 Karen placed #3 on Spinner.com’s Women Who Rock Right Now(1).
