Earth Day 2009

April 21, 2009

I was a bit depressed in watching a movie called, Encounters at the End of the World, The skinny-”Celebrated documentary filmmaker Werner Herzog takes you on a wild and woolly journey to the South Pole, from the National Science Foundation’s headquarters on Ross Island to some of Antarctica’s most remote and dangerous terrain. With a keen eye for the wonders and sometimes hilarious peculiarities of this icy land’s animal and human inhabitants, Herzog offers an astounding look at the world’s most inhospitable landscape in this Best Documentary contender for an Academy Award.”

The movie was well done and a great piece of work that had been compiled first hand on the people and conditions found living in the South Pole during the summer months when there is no darkness even in the middle of the night! It was interesting seeing the types of people that go there to live either part time or that are permanent residences, their backgrounds and their experience while there. The sad part was there is a lot of change happening as we know down there.. lots of melt off, etc. The scientists there don’t even know what the implications are to this world and how it will effect us but it is definite and I’m not going to go into the whole “global warming” debate here but bottom line, logic and science show massive change at an accelerated pace.

The video here is the Brakes new video off their forthcoming album, Touchdown out soon.

I’m celebrating Earth Day with Music, at a Paulo Nutini concert. I hope you enjoy the day and take time to think of what the vessel Earth does for you everyday, and the joy it brings. The sun is out here like a summer day in Portland, Spring Fever is a raging! Cheers!
