Celebrating The Body Electric!

ponytail2 A few months back, not sure when, I watched a video on Pitchfork TV that reminded me of Teletubies on acid-a real trippy video with rainbow colors and a spectrum of hovering lights as if some sort of spacecraft were descending across a landscape of islands and sea. Now, the same song by the group- Ponytail, “Celebrate The Body Electric”, is set to another wild and psychedelic video but mixed with lots of high energy action to pump you up to a fine frenzy….then, right about where you hit sensory overload, an intermission for the senses, if you will, occurs as the song mellows to some simpler instrumentals void of Molly Siegel’s, frantic vocals (the lead singer for this Baltimore based band). It’s at this point you appear to be guided along a rather glassy lake under a grey sky… the only colors now appear in brush strokes along the sky in front of you as you float along… but the pace quickens yet again, skating you along the water until you are launched back on a Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride once again.  However, you may now notice that the previous highs and lows have left you better prepared mentally to enjoy this ride we call “Ponytail”. Yes, you begin to understand the point to all this madness as you begin to tumble about freely on a carnival ride as the song builds back up into a creschendo of sight and sound, splashes of glitter and glow, fireworks are appropriately intermingled as you come to the grand finale of this experience. This comination leaves you a bit breathless but at the same time is a good tonic. I always end up feeling happier and freer when Ponytail is done with me. See how you feel watching it for yourselves.Well? Now pick up a copy of the acoustic set they performed for “Celebate the Body Electric” and others at daytrotter or check out their website and get a copy of their latest album and check out calendar for their current tour here.
