Mat Kearney – City of Black and White
Mat Kearney’s new album, City of Black and White, dropped today and is available on iTunes. Having previewed a good portion of the album, I have to say its very much in line with his past albums. Although Mat is not one of my favorite songwriters, he does make up for it in part with his warm and inviting voice. However, I’m not overly excited about this album but there are a few songs I like. On first listen, the song “Annie” is one my favorites. The song is about a girl who is trying to make it on her own, leaving behind a troubled past. Kearney admits that the album “is about the pains and joys of landing in a community, or desiring to land in one. It’s about brotherhood, love, heartbreak, disillusionment and finding oneself through friends and community.” The title track, City of Black and White, is also very nice.
