Missy alongside Ernie Dingo, Geoffrey Rush, Jessica Mauboy, Missy Higgins, Deborah Mailman and Dan Sultan are cast in the film directed by Rachel Perkins. We just saw the trailer for this today and are really excited to see it!
The film premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival and won the Audience Award for Best Film.
Bran Nue Dae originally was set to a 1990 musical in Broome, Western Australia that tells stories and of issues relating to Indigenous Australians. It was written by Jimmy Chi, his band Kuckles and friends and was the first Aboriginal musical.
Broom Australia in WA (Western Australia) is a special place for Missy Higgins because she spent many days and nights there where she wrote the songs to her latest hit album, On A Clear Night, which she has been working very hard here in LA promoting and touring across the country this past couple of years. YATM has followed her from her 19 year teenage break through artist days in Australia to the present where she is on the verge of international stardom. Her maturity and songwriting skills far exceed her years.
For those of you outside of Australia who have yet to discover Missy Higgins, check out some of our Missy Higginsposts on YATM. She’s already taken the Southern hemisphere by storm and shows no signs of stopping. Missy recently helped host the ARIA Awards where co star Jessica Mauboy was nominated for seven ARIA music awards: Highest Selling Single (Burn & Running Back), Highest Selling Album, Best Pop Release, Breakthrough Artist Single (Running Back), Breakthrough Artist Album & Best Female Artist
Mauboy performed “Burn” at the ARIA Awards on November 26th, and won the award for Highest Selling Single. (“Running Back”)
